A Monster in the Manhole

I took a walk this morning around the neighborhood with a friend and as we were passing by a (mostly closed) manhole I noticed a rope coming up and out of the hole — tied off as if a safety line.

I wondered who (or what) was down there. If a man, then why was it mostly closed? Then it occurred to me that someone may have lowered the line to catch something. A creature living beneath the city. Then it further occurred to me that perhaps it was the creature that cast the line and they are looking to catch a curious passerby from above. Perhaps I was that curious passerby that would give the rope a tug and be pulled into this creature’s world? I wondered if the creature would be a monster. Or if the creature would see that I’m a monster.

These are the things that crossed my mind. All from a rope poking out of a manhole.

Be well,

Monty

Yes, Michelle. It serves me well as a writer but can get me into trouble sometimes in life. Haha.

Whenever I’m telling someone about my lackluster or otherwise mundane day, I apologize and say that next time I share the story I’ll throw in a monster just to spice things up.

  3. You should have taken a picture. We all could have shared our ideas. Now, we will Never know. 😦

  4. I enjoyed all these questions. It’s funny that I just scheduled a CW post for tomorrow morning (my time) with a hole and a rope in it. It’s a bit different from yours, though.
