God Built Me Blue

A poem

God Built Me Blue

God built me blue,

A whole rainbow to choose from,

But he said “thy shall be blue.”

Or perhaps Mother Earth spilled her paints

During the ocean’s creation.

Or planted an iris’ bulb in my chest

And waited for it bloom.

I’m not sure of the creation story,

But I’m truly blue.

It’s not that I don’t burn orange or red

Or smile bright yellow

Or glow green

But I always settle in puddles of blue.

It’s just who I am.

For, God built me blue.

Be well,

Monty
