Since it’s poetry month, I thought I would try out some new forms and I bumped into a great blog post from A Different Perspective listing out 13 poetic form prompts. A big thanks to them for the inspiration
Prompt 1
Write a Bob and Wheel poem or
Write a poem using the word “elastic”
A Different Perspective by muisopsis
Here are the guidelines for a Bob and Wheel:
– Quintain (five line) stanza or poem
– Rhyming pattern of a-b-a-b-a
– First line 2-3 syllables; All other lines six syllables per line
Why is it called a ‘Bob and Wheel’? Because its a combination of the “wheel” form and the “bob” forms. You can find out more here.
Ok, get ready to bob and wheel! Here I go.
(Oh and because I am who I am, I’m going to incorporate the optional prompt word “elastic” into the optional bob and wheel form because…well, just because!)
Surgical Lies
Elastic
Features and glassy eyes
Stretched tight with filled plastic
Her smile surgical lies
The knife’s edge too drastic
Well, that was interesting. The syllable count constraint definitely was the most challenging aspect as I wanted to include the line “Hiding behind surgical lies” but it was too long for the form.
Wanna give it a try?
Be well,
Monty
