Since it’s poetry month, I thought I would try out some new forms and I bumped into a great blog post from A Different Perspective listing out 13 poetic form prompts. A big thanks to them for the inspiration
Prompt 4
Write an Alouette poem or
Write a poem using the word “yield”
A Different Perspective by muisopsis
Here are the guidelines for a Alouette:
– Two or more stanzas of 6 lines each
– Meter: 5, 5, 7, 5, 5, 7
– Rhyme scheme: a, a, b, c, c, b
Ok, this one is going to be a stretch for me as I’m not exactly sure I know how to recognize let alone write meter properly. But, I’ll give it a go.
“Alouette” means skylark (as in the bird) in French. It also has the meaning of a children’s song. I think, I’ll embrace the children’s aspect of this meaning and write something lighthearted and fun.
Ok, let’s Alouette!
(Oh and once again I’ve decided to incorporate the optional prompt word into the poem as well — “yield”.
And Silly Be
Yield oh little one
Stop and have some fun
Grab my hand and silly be
There’s no time to waist
Come and play, make haste
Let us dance wild, you and me
Go on, We’re not done
This game’s just begun
Grab my nose and silly be
Make a crazy face
Run a lazy race
It is our time to be free
Oh what fun what fun
We’ve gone lost the sun
Grab my toe and silly be
Don’t lose this pace
One more wild tail chase
Let us end this day with glee
Oh, that was fun! This would fit into my #AtoZChallenge series of “Seriously Silly Poetry” if I think about it. If you enjoyed this poem and want to check out more silly poetry you can start with my “A is for…Apples Eating Zebras” and move on down the alphabet from there. I promise it’s fun!
So, what do you think about the Alouette form? Wanna give it a try?
Be well,
Monty

Yes!! Let’s be silly and just have fun!! I think that there isn’t enough fun in this world. Perhaps if everyone were to stop and jump rope or build sandcastles they wouldn’t have time to wage war…
