Since it’s poetry month, I thought I would try out some new forms and I bumped into a great blog post from A Different Perspective listing out 13 poetic form prompts. A big thanks to them for the inspiration
Prompt 9
Write an Espinela poem or
Write a poem incorporating the theme of passion
A Different Perspective by muisopsis
Here are the guidelines for a Espinela:
– Made up of two stanzas: first stanza 4 lines, second stanza 6 lines
– Each line 8 made up of 8 syllables
– Rhyme scheme is abba/accddc
This is essentially the same form as the Decima except it’s broken into two stanzas vs. being one stanza of 10 lines.
I will try to fully embrace this form as well as the theme of passion! Let’s Espinela!
One Little Glance My Way
Across the darkened room you sit
Seeming to glance over at me
I tremble thinking it can’t be
Perhaps I just imagined it.
With my passion’s wick fully lit
I take the chance to look your way
And see your winking eyes at play
My thoughts turn rather risky
Inflamed by way too much whisky
And your one little glance my way.
Well that was fun! It is actually quite autobiographical about the first time I met my wife over 25 years ago. I’ll share more about this another day.
Be well,
Monty
