My Thoughts Take Flight (2022 NaPoWriMo #27)

With a little digging I found another series of poetry prompts being provided by NaPoWriMo – 30 Poems in 30 Days. I’m starting in the middle and I’ll see how it goes as to whether I work to catch-up with the prior prompts or just carry on forward.

Prompt 27

Write a “duplex” poem.

NaPoWriMo.net

According to the prompt, a “duplex” poem is a variation on the sonnet — 14 lines, organized into seven two-line stanzas with “echoing” from stanza to stanza. Sound’s complex, but let me give it a try.

My Thoughts Take Flight

My thoughts take flight and soar up high
Escaping my minds gravity toward the sky

My thoughts escape to the open sky
Joining the stars twinkling bright

Among the stars twinkling so bright
Their heaviness pulls at the light.

My heavy thoughts darken the light
Swirling into a dense hole of black

My thoughts now a dense hole of black
Starlight, once bright, sucked within

Light and stones and moons sucked in
Too dense for physics to describe

So dense, my mind tries too hard to describe
My thoughts take flight and soar up high

Be well,

Monty
