Monty Goes Big (2022 NaPoWriMo #14)

May might be here but I’m still working through the NaPoWriMo – 30 Poems in 30 Days prompts since I discovered them late.

Prompt 14

Write a poem that takes the form of the opening scene of the movie of your life.

Time to go big (screen)!

Monty Goes Big

Picture this.

A dimly lit and slightly smokey room.
Dark wood tables lit with glowing red paper lanterns.
The camera pans slowly capturing elegant ladies
Sipping drinks and smoking slender cigarettes
While seemingly mesmerized by a shadowy figure
Standing on a small center stage. All is silent.

A single spot light clicks on. Revealing me, splendidly portly and pink. There is a collective “ooh” from the ladies around the room as they swoon.

The old sound system crackles on.
Cranking out a familiar tune and the lyrics start to scroll across the bottom of the screen with a bouncing ball keeping the beat to Queen’s “We are the Champions” and I play an epic air guitar riff. At the height of the chorus I fall off the stage with a crash and a squeal and the room falls silent with concern. Then I jump back on stage and finish the song with the whole room rocking the anthem in a symphonic flourish.

End Scene.

Be well,

Monty
