Within the Walls

I slept within the walls
Squeezed between the heavy plaster
Smothered by insulation and
Tangled in wires

A kick of my heal
Breaks through into yellowed light
Exposing studs from their shadows and
Scattering dust

Condensation drops upon me from a pipe above
Turning skin to sticky paste
Gathering pink fiberglass feathers
Clumpy like a half-plucked flamingo

A brown mouse looks at the strange scene
Incuriously resting on its hind
Before pit-a-patting away
To find something more palatable.

I shut my eyes till I see the stars
And hear the moon’s light
Singing a lullaby
Marking an end to this night

Be well,

Monty

This was a bit of a dream then an imaginative journey from there.
