This poem is a part of the poetic ‘scavenger hunt’ designed by @murisopsis from A Different Perspective. This time the theme is Names, as in poetic forms that feature a name (e.g. one of the prompts is to write a poem in the form of “Amandas Pinch” — a form I’ve personally never heard of before). There are thirteen prompts in total so this is more manageable then a daily commitment challenge. Check out all the prompts and the way it works here and join in if your up for some poetic puzzling. Enjoy!
Prompt 2
Write a poem using the form The Donna or write an ode to a woman named Donna.
A Different Perspective
The Donna is a syllabic Limerick and is intended to be witty/fun. It’s comprised of any number of quintains with lines 8/6/4/4/6 syllables and rhyming xabba, xcddc, etc. Full rules here.
A Girl Named Donna
Once there was a girl named Donna
She lived across the street
I had a crush
My heart was mush
Hoping to some day meet.
Then I saw her in the window
Dancing to her own beat
Naked and free
For me to see
Everything but her feet.
The sight made me very dizzy
My belly felt so odd
What a feeling
All from seeing
Donna’s hot dancing bod.
The next day her house stood empty
She’d moved away that night
Oh, how I cried
Couldn’t stop, I tried
I prayed for one more sight.
Then arrived a big moving van
Out popped a cute red head
My heart beat rushed
I felt quite flushed
And all I saw was Red.
This is my first time writing a Limerick. Another light hearted (and a bit silly) one. I summoned my teenage boy self. It was fun to figure out how to keep it short and snappy.
Be well,
Monty

Haha oh no! The loss of poor Donna! I may be a bit biased but red heads are better 😅😅

As a red-head I appreciate the nod! But besides that you kept the feel of the limerick and the subject was very much in line with limericks the world over! Bravo for a poem well done and entertaining!!
