It’s All Alright

If you noticed, I’ve been trying to get back into a bit of a writing groove this week. I don’t always have something to say, but I always feel better after I’ve said it. Writing for me is often a process of discovery. Similar to my approach to visual arts. I need some type of spark to get started, but then everything seems to evolve as it needs to. I’m more of a witness to the process then I am a creator.

The spark doesn’t have to be especially shiny. That’s what I need to remind myself consistently. Otherwise I may never start. I’ll be waiting for a good idea. A good idea is much harder to come by in the nether’s of my mind than it is at the tips of my fingertips. Or perhaps its just my standard for a good idea changes once I’ve got something down “on paper”. When it’s up to my imagination I have high expectations. Expectations for some amazing insight that is worth sharing to the world. But once I’ve started to capture my thoughts, even the mundane, I come to a place of acceptance that a write is a write is a write and it’s all alright. Today is a case in point. It’s all alright.

Be well,

Monty

And it was a good write! I think you are in the majority – most of us write what we are thinking/doing/seeing. Waiting for brilliance is a boring and unproductive effort!

And here I thought I was special…haha. Seriously though, there is so much more to be gained by just doing something to get started.

  3. “A write is a write and it’s allright”. Sounds a little “Dr. Seuss-ish” but I love it. It should be the mantra of every writer.
