Ars Poetica (2022 NaPoWriMo #30)

Well it took me to mid-May but here I am at the end of the prompts from NaPoWriMo – 30 Poems in 30 Days. Hope you enjoyed this years series. Now I have to figure out what’s in store for tomorrow.

Prompt 30

Write a cento.

NaPoWriMo.net

Ooh! I love trying out new forms. This form is essentially a poetic collage which is intriguing. I’m not in the best of minds to do deep research so let me just play a round a little bit and then I can come back to this form again to experiment further.

Ars Poetica

A poem should not mean but be
I breathed a song into the air
With your breath

I actually like the result a lot. Although, I feel bad that I can’t credit each of the poems I pulled from for this cento — my brain is a bit scattered and I didn’t take notes as I flipped through various poetry books to pick out lines. However, the first line is from Ars Poetica by Archibald MacLeish.

Be well,

Monty

I love “a poem should not mean but be” like dannng. Exactly! My one issue with poems, both in reading and writing them, is the constant “but what are those words supposed to mean?” Analyzing every word and line in the greats and the classics trying to disect every little thing. How exhausting! It ruins the poem for me.

I hope your wife is doing well!
