“Re-Souled”

He spoke of a soft heart;
Of kindness and acceptance;
Supple from hard use,
Like a pair of well-worn boots;
More than once “re-souled”.

His face familiar,
This man, a brother,
Yet I felt the stranger;
His words generous, loving, vulnerable;
Spoken, maybe, but I’d never heard.

A deeply calm rumble,
His sandy voice
Smoothed my sharp defenses,
Blunting points and dulling edges;
And yet, somehow, I felt safer.

Perhaps,
Now
I’m
Ready
To
Listen?

Be well,

Monty
