The Phantom Tollbooth Misremembered (NaPoWriMo #1)

National Poetry Month is back! I’ll be selectively participating in a number of poetry prompts this month. Here is my entry for the prompt from napowrimo.net.

Write – without consulting the book – a poem that recounts the plot, or some portion of the plot, of a novel that you remember having liked but that you haven’t read in a long time.

The Phantom Tollbooth Misremembered

Forty-odd years ago go a young boy got caught up in the pages of a fantasy. The pages flipped faster and faster as he chased the adventure. Then all things slowed down. Becoming slower, and slower, and slower, till the pages felt like stones. Too heavy to turn. The boy’s since grown grey. His hands etched with hopes lost. His memory failing. He can’t recall how to escape the Doldrums.

Be well,

Monty

  1. I read The Phantom Tollbooth for the second (or third?) time a few years ago. It was a good read even as an adult.
