A Bite to Remember (NaPoWriMo #2)

National Poetry Month is back! I’ll be selectively participating in a number of poetry prompts this month. Here is my entry for the prompt from napowrimo.net.

Write a platonic love poem. In other words, a poem not about a romantic partner, but some other kind of love – your love for your sister, or a friend, or even your love for a really good Chicago deep dish pizza. The poem should be written directly to the object of your affections (like a letter is written to “you”), and should describe at least three memories of you engaging with that person/thing.

A Bite to Remember

I’ll never forget that moment,
You glistening red in boiled goodness,
Enrobed in cushiony white carbs – the most forbidden kind.
Me, lubricated and wanting. My eyes only for you,
Undistracted by the heavy base and bouncing bodies.
There was only us.

This memory goes back a couple of decades to when the “Atkins” low-carb diet was a big thing. I’d been on the diet for a month or more when I found myself at a dance club on the Jersey Shore and they were serving “dirty dogs” – the most basic of hot dogs. It was absolute ecstasy. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure if this qualifies for being completely platonic. Oh well…

Be well,

Monty

Hehe! Monty this was a touch erotic! But I completely understand. I went on a no dairy diet and I started dreaming of cheese! That first bite of cheese once I went off the diet was so very good – an ecstatic moment!!
