Mother’s Day, 1980ish (#Golden)
I was determined to make breakfast. “The Joy of Cooking” was open on a counter dusted with white flour and dotted with droplets of oil and eggshell. The skillet was hot. Too hot. My first, second, and third attempts were blackened and the room was smokey. Cutting the flame, I tried again with the last bit of batter. I waited impatiently until I couldn’t wait longer. I made the flip and to my amazement there lay golden perfection. My mom loved the pancake. Not so much the mess.

If you enjoy these very short stories, you can also check out one of my earliest books – MONTY’S VERY SHORT SHORTS which includes 366 illustrated pieces (one for each day in my life of 2020).

Be well,
Monty
